The cover of Still Here.: a path running into a mountain valley.

Some nights you do not want a story that asks anything of you. You want someone to read to you, slowly, about a person who is tired too, and then let you sleep.

That is what Still Here. is. Five essays about Elias, read aloud on my podcast, Avery Lane Maxwell., each one leaving you a single thing to carry, each with its own song written for the house.

The five

  1. A Used Sunday. Being used up is not the same as being used. You are still here, and that counts.
  2. The Fire Didn't Need Him. You were allowed in the room before you were useful in it.
  3. Keeping September Company. Green in front, gold behind. Both are you, and nothing about you is late.
  4. Just Make It Without. Say what is missing, then make it anyway.
  5. There You Are. Someone is glad you exist. Stand still long enough to let it be true.

When

The first, A Used Sunday, is out now, as a film as well as a reading: the words land on the screen the moment they are spoken. The other four arrive one a day, Monday 26 October through Thursday 29 October. On Sunday, 1 November, they become a book, an audiobook and an album.

Where

Every episode is free. Watch the films and listen on the podcast's own page, or on Apple Podcasts, Spotify and YouTube, where the show is called Avery Lane Maxwell. The music under it, The Lamp On, is out on its own wherever you listen to music.

If one of them lands for you, pass it to someone who keeps a house. That is how these find the people they were made for.
